What Manner of Buildings are These?
What Manner of Buildings are These?
Mary Ann Wray
“Then as He went out
of the temple, one of His disciples said to Him, “Teacher, see what manner of
stones and what buildings are here!” And Jesus answered and said to him, “Do
you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another, that
shall not be thrown down.” Mark 13: 1-2
Here’s a heart wrenching yet sobering video as to what can
happen when financial corruption, man centered ideologies and a ministry drift
apart from The Father’s Heart. God dwells and builds with living stones, not
bricks and mortar. He cares about people not buildings (1 Peter 2:5). Buildings
can be a means to an end but they will eventually crumble. Jesus is the WAY and
HIS Ways are higher than man's ways. He lives in HIS people. We ARE the church.
There is such an epochal lesson to be observed and learned from this…
The Lord cares nothing about building programs that
emphasize fundraising over feeding the flock of God, fulfilling The Great
Commission and making disciples. Proponents like the WOF/ NAR doctrine or any
religious “system” that emphasizes taking over mountains, naming and claiming
it, garnering political influence, pursuing personal wealth and pushing for
pledges are building on a faulty foundation that cannot stand.
We would be wise to take heed from this bit of religious
history that isn't talked about much if at all any longer. We must beware lest
our buildings made of stone become sacred cows that we worship and forget the
real reason why we should gather together. Where is not important. WHO we
gather together for and with is.
History: Carpenter's Home Church (Lakeland, FL) Original
church: Opened in 1985 as a large Pentecostal megachurch affiliated with the
Assemblies of God USA, peaking at nearly 7,000 members.
Decline and closure: The church closed due to financial
scandal and falling attendance. Later ownership: The property was bought by
Without Walls International Church Pastored by Paula and Randy White and became
their affiliate, Without Walls Central Church.
Final collapse: Without Walls also faced financial issues,
leading to the sale of the property to developers.
Demolition: The building was demolished in March 2015 and
nothing remains of it today Property site: Purchased by developers. The Estates
and Lake Gibson Village (which occupies the former Carpenters’ Home / church
site) are on Carpenters Way and part of a broader development area. An assisted
living center named The Estates at Carpenters overlaps the property on which
the Carpenter’s Home Church once Stood.
